Hard to fathom we're playing Burnley for 6th place in the table, but there you have it. Magic Christian to all.

A good win...and should have been more than 3-0. Need better finishing from our midfielders and show this hunger more consistently.

We certainly Kaned them.  Much better performances from Sissoko and Aurier too.   Sissoko is so much more effective as a box to box midfielder than a right winger.

...but man, he offers about as much of a goal-scoring threat as Scotty P!

Morning Rob - figured someone might bring that up.  Son, Eriksen and Kane all blew equally good scoring opportunities in a generally profligate first half.  But we don't write off their whole performances because of the odd gaff.

Apart from Sissoko making that lung busting run and drawing 2 saves from Burnley keeper he contributed a very nice assist for one of Kane's goals and contributed defensively and offensively all over the park from go to whoa.   Observe where Mopo has him stand to defend corners.  Always near post and in the past 2 matches I counted 3 corners he personally intercepted.  The man is a giant so may as well make use as a barrier!

I accept that none of this yet justifies the money we paid ... but he is improving and showing more confidence too.  So I'm hoping for better things to come.

You're not wrong, PSY2. He's an impressive athlete and offers something. I did wonder at last season's finale if Poch might want another season to work with him, and maybe we're seeing the fruits of that. For that insane run of Man U-Anfield-NLD-Turin, we're going to need all hands on deck in midfield. Ideally, we wouldn't be rotating any first-choice selections out of any of those matches given the current table, but it seems inevitable.

Speaking of which, was a little surprised to not see Winks start either of the last 2. But good to see Dier given two straight matches at his preferred position.

Also, Jan has been so, so strong. Even in the City match.

Imho Winks promotion and big-upping was a bit premature. He is definitely a good midfielder with potential, a tidy footballer who has acquitted himself well, even against the likes of Real. But for me there is no standout feature of his game - speed, passing, dribbling, defensive strength. And this was obvious when he got a schooling at Man City.

To some extent the injuries and decline of Dembele hastened his promotion. But with Dembele's decline, we def need a quality addition in that spot as Sissoko and Winks are not gonna make us a title winning team. A very good backup for now for sure though.

I hope its not the ankle injury he suffered that kept him out for so long.  The pep and fizz that we saw in his early games doesn't seem to be there at the moment.

The difference between being a useful squad player to being a regular is enormous and he could end up like Carrol or Mason unless he lifts his game.
